You more than likely have a Google Business Profile. This is a free service provided by Google that was previously called ‘Google My Business’, up until late 2021.
A Google Business Profile is an important asset for most businesses as it gives them more visibility in the search engines, particularly for local search results. For example, if someone is searching for an accountant in their local town, Google will display a map and a number of Google business profiles to the user.
It’s easy to get set up with your profile, but one mistake that business owners make is not keeping it updated. When did you last update yours?
A regularly updated profile will be considered more reputable. It could generate more clicks from interested users, drive more people to your listing and ultimately bring more leads or sales.
You could add new images to your profile, update your opening hours, change your categories or descriptions, reply to reviews, and lots more.
One of the key things about Google’s system is that they encourage user contributions. What this means in practice, is that anyone can contribute an update to a business profile. For example, a user could add a review, add a question or answer in the Q&A section, and even add images or videos.
It’s really important that you’re checking any user contributions as part of your regular updates. If you find something out of place you’re able to correct this, ensuring that your potential customers will see the right information.
I strongly recommend setting up a task of checking and updating your Google Business Profile at least once per month. You can update your business details, add information about new products or services, and share news with your customers through the posts feature.
Taking the time to ensure your profile is up-to-date and well optimised gives you more opportunities to generate new leads and sales for your business.
