Google Analytics is changing soon

There’s no denying how important data can be to your business. It’s vital in order to make the right decisions and run your business efficiently.

When it comes to your website, this type of data will be tracking how many people are coming to your website and what they’re doing after they arrive.

You likely have some form of analytics set up for your website already. If you do, you’re probably using one of the most popular solutions for analytics, which is Google’s Universal Analytics. It was first released back in November 2005 and is used on more than 28,000,000 websites around the world.

Since Google released their free analytics product, they’ve made numerous changes to enhance it and help businesses around the world to have access to better quality data. The most recent version of their software that was released is called Google Analytics 4.

In recent news, Google have announced that the original Universal Analytics project will no longer be collecting data as of July 2023. What that means to you as a business owner, is that if you’re using Google Analytics on your website, you’ll need to switch to Google Analytics 4.

Google have created a step-by-step process for switching to Google Analytics 4. You can find more information about that here.

As you’ll see from the list, there are quite a few steps required to complete the switch from Universal Analytics to Google Analytics 4. If you’re web savvy and happy with technical elements, then this will be something you can handle in-house.

If you’re less technical or you don’t have a lot of free time, then this is something that you can outsource.

We’ve been helping our clients with the process of switching over to Google Analytics 4. If you’d like to book a free call to discuss how we can help your business, please click here to pick a date and time that suits you.

It’s important to note that you won’t be able to copy over your analytical data from Universal Analytics to Google Analytics 4. The new Google Analytics 4 profile will only contain data from the date it is installed and set up on your website.

For this reason, a phased migration is better when you’re switching to Google Analytics 4. This will ensure that you’re correctly receiving data and tracking any events on your website, such as purchases or sign-ups.

To get the most benefit from switching to Google Analytics 4, it’s recommended that you consider doing this as soon as possible. If you were to successfully switch by July 2022, you’ll have a full year of data collected by July 2023, when Universal Analytics reaches its end of life.

Let me know if you have any questions on the above. I’d be more than happy to help explain anything in more detail.
