Easy things to write about

You’ve probably sat staring at a blank screen more than once, trying to find the will to type.

Finding ideas to write about can be elusive, and inspiration seems impossible to grasp. You might even find yourself giving up on sending out that email, or creating that post on social media because it all feels too difficult.

The good news is that there is always something you can write about.

It might seem like you’ve exhausted every topic, but there’s a good chance there’s plenty more to write about. You just need to know where to look.

So how do you do that?

  1. Know what makes your audience tick: This is a vital step in making sure your content isn’t hit or miss. When you know your audience, you gain valuable insight into their interests, which you can write content around. Social media is a fantastic way to find out what your customers want to read about.
  2. Know your competitors: The competition is going to be vying for your target audience's attention just as much as you are. Take a look at what they’re talking about in social media, and how much engagement they’re getting on each topic. Could you do better? (the answer to this is always yes!)
  3. Take a look at what’s trending online: The internet is full of social media pages, forums, and video platforms. The chances are there will be a conversation going on somewhere about the industry you work in, or niche you are interested in. You can see exactly what people are discussing, what topics are the most popular, or what gets the most engagement. This is a fantastic way to inspire new ideas for your content because you gain direct insight.
  4. Don’t try to sell all the time: A problem that many business owners face when writing content is that they try to stick too rigidly to the idea that every email or post needs to result in a sale. Instead, focus on building a relationship with your readers. Going back to knowing what makes your audience tick, what would they like to hear about? What could you sit and talk about if you were having a coffee with them? Write that.
  5. Write a list of anything that pops into your head: You might read back on it and laugh, but there's a great chance you’ll also find a few gems that you can use. When you write without limits or expectations, you allow your brain to be more creative. You find yourself thinking outside the box which is where all the best ideas are.

Writing fresh content doesn’t need to be overwhelming, and you don’t need to conjure up new topics out of thin air like some kind of word wizard. You just need to have your ear to the ground and soon you will have a long list of ideas that will engage your audience.

If that long list of ideas is still somewhat daunting, and you would prefer to entrust it to a copywriter, I would be more than happy to help you bring your new content ideas to life. You can book in a call on my calendar here.
